Visual FoxPro - Windows 7 Compatibility

In recent months we've had more and more ProMatrix developers with old pre-VPME 9.0 apps telling us that their customers are switching to Windows 7 and the developers' old apps won't run in Windows 7. Apparently, the customers of these ProMatrix developers didn't switch to Vista (which was common), but are now switching to Windows 7 and the compatibility problems are only being found now. So, it is definitely time to resurrect a discussion of this issue and its solutions.

Accordingly, we created a Visual FoxPro - Windows 7 Compatibility discussion page. The purpose of the discussion is to describe the potential problem and to suggest possible solutions for VPM developers who need to update their VPM applications to VFP 9.0.

Important: If you have applications you created in pre-VFP 9.0 versions of Visual FoxPro and pre-VPME 9.0 versions of Visual ProMatrix, you must read this discussion.

Converting VPME 9.1 Training Videos to Run on Mobile Devices

Last week a VPME 9.1 user who has the VPME 9.1 Training Videos asked how he could convert the videos to run on his iPod. He had tried several video converters but hadn't found any that worked.

The user's question piqued my interest and I did some research. To make a long story short, after trying numerous video converters, I found a free product that works. It's Any Video Converter.

While knowing that AVC will do the job may be all you need to know, there's more to this story. If you want to learn more and hear a little bit about the history of ProMatrix training videos, read on.

ProMatrix Forums Almost One Year Old

On June 14, 2010, we moved from our old nntp newsgroups to browser-based, or web, forums constructed with phpBB. You will find the ProMatrix Forums at http://forum.promatrix.net.

The ProMatrix Forums will soon be one year old, and they seem to be working well. We at ProMatrix like them. We no longer have to maintain our own server, and as a result, we no longer experience long outages.

We still have plans to provide an online or offline archive of the old ProMatix nntp newsgroups by mid-2011. Those newsgroups contain a treasure-trove of ProMatrix info that ProMatrix users would find valuable.
